As you may know, VenturingFest 2018 will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve from July 1st-6th, 2018 to celebrate Venturing’s 20th birthday! Join us for quick access to the latest activities at the Summit, social events with Venturers from across the nation, an incredible birthday celebration, and the opportunity of a lifetime!
I can't believe it's almost summer again! Just under a year ago, your Venturing officers began their journeys in their respective positions. We've had the opportunity to see Venturing thrive across the nation and bring your ideas to help Venturing succeed to the table.
Our goal this year was to increase transparency and provide our members with the information they need to lead strong Venturing crews. We planned another national Venturing event, VenturingFest 2018, to celebrate our 20th anniversary and give our members an opportunity to meet other Venturers and create connections that will strengthen our program. We released Venturing.org in January, equipped with a plethora of helpful resources and an accessible chat feature to ensure your questions are answered in a timely manner. We recently updated our SOPs and Venturing Leadership Award (VLA) procedures to ensure that youth are given a voice and our Areas have the flexibility to meet their timeline and needs. Finally, we released our Training Toolbox, an amalgamation of approved presentations created by Venturers, for Venturers to help you train your peers without starting from scratch. It's been an exciting year!
We're excited to transition over to our 2017-18 National Venturing Officers on June 1st:
Michelle Merritt, National Venturing President
Catherine Seebauer, National Venturing Vice President
Ripley Price, Northeast Region Venturing President
Savannah McMillan, Southern Region Venturing President
Dominic Wolters, Central Region Venturing President
Jessica Kent, Western Region Venturing President
Check out the VOA Officers' pages in a few weeks to read more about them! We are also excited to recognize some of our key volunteers with the National Venturing Leadership Award (NVLA). The following individuals will be presented with the NVLA on Thursday, May 25th in Orlando at the National Annual Meeting:
Christopher Mausshardt, Central Region
Erik Saderholm, Northeast Region
Katherine Schneider, Western Region
Michelle Merritt, Northeast Region
Catherine Seebauer, Central Region
Nathaniel Steele, Central Region
Russ Hunsaker, Western Region
Andrew Miller, Northeast Region
Thank you for all your hard work and incredible contributions to Scouting this past year.
Yours in Venturing,

Happy Birthday, Venturing!
Dear fellow Venturers,
As you may know, February 9th marks Venturing’s nineteenth birthday! Throughout the years, the Venturing program that we hold near and dear to our hearts, has provided adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service opportunities to thousands of youth throughout the nation. More importantly, it has given the future generation of our world’s leaders the memories and experiences that will last a lifetime and shape them into responsible citizens.
We have showcased nineteen different Venturing Crews that thrive through their unique application of Venturing and Scouting ideals on our social media platforms.
We would like to take a moment to thank you each of you for your contributions to our program. Whether you are a seasoned Scouter sharing your experiences with Venturers or a brand new Venturer ready to fully embrace this program’s potential, you are making a positive difference, and for that we are thankful. Without all of you, we would not have a program to serve.
We hope that each of you continues to "lead the adventure" through your local, national, and global communities. Together, we can grow and positively impact both our own lives and the lives of our peers. Thank you for your continued support. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or suggestions!
Yours in Venturing,
Pratik Vaidya and Michelle Merritt

Charter Renewal Exception for 18-year-old Venturing and Sea Scouts Members
An unintended consequence of our change in registration requirements has placed a burden on units, districts, and councils in getting high school students currently registered in our Venturing and Sea Scouts programs who turn 18 during their senior year to complete an adult application and take Youth Protection Training in order to recharter. Effective immediately, the following exception will be introduced:
Adult Application Exception
Application: To any youth member during the year of high school graduation who:
Turns 18 years of age;
Is actively participating and registered in the same Venturing or Sea Scouts program unit as they were before turning 18; and
Meets one or more of the following:
Has not yet graduated from high school;
Has graduated from high school, been accepted to attend college but has not yet started classes;
Has graduated from high school, enlisted in the armed forces, and is scheduled to report but has not yet reported for duty;
Has graduated from high school, applied to serve in a service or religious program, (e.g., ministry, mission, VISTA, Peace Corps, etc.) but has not yet begun their service.
Exception: A youth member who becomes an adult program participant or Scouter by virtue of turning 18 years of age who and for so long as they meet the requirements and continuously maintain their registration in the same unit does not need to submit an adult application or complete Youth Protection Training. The exception is no longer applicable if the requirements are no longer met or after December 31 of the year of graduation, whichever is sooner.
As a part of the Charter Renewal process, the paperwork will indicate that new Venturing participants need to complete the Adult Application and take Youth Protection Training. For any other youth registrant age 18 or over who is continuously registered in the same unit, please disregard the warning.
Additionally, when processing the charter, the registrar may receive a warning, but again, disregard this (warnings maybe disregarded, whereas errors must be resolved) and complete the charter renewal process.
