Venturing Leadership Award

In order to recognize Venturers and Venturing Advisors who have made exceptional contributions to Venturing and who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law, councils, areas, regions, and the BSA National Council may present individuals with the Venturing Leadership Award.

 

The Council Award is administered by each Council. The Area, Region, and National awards are selected by a task force of youth from the respective tier and are processed by the National office and shipped to the appropriate persons for presentation.

 

Qualifications

  • Be registered and involved as a Venturer or Venturing advisor for at least one year.
  • Hold a leadership position or an office at the unit, district, council, area, region, or national level (as appropriate for the level of the award presented).
  • Show exceptional dedication and give outstanding leadership and service to Venturing and to Venturers (on the level appropriate for the award).

 

Guidelines

  • The nomination form linked below must be used for council, area, region, and national Venturing Leadership Award consideration.
  • The nomination forms must be submitted by the following deadlines:
    • Council: Dates are set by the local council
    • Area: Dates are set by the area (see pages 23-29 of our SOPs for guidelines and details)
    • Region: January 31, 2018
    • National: January 15, 2018
  • Attach letters of recommendation from Venturers, Scouters, acquaintances, teachers, place of worship, etc.
  • Youth nominations may be submitted for up to one year past the youth's 21st birthday.

Annual Quota

  • Councils may present two awards per year for up to 50 crews/ships, and one additional recognition per year for each fraction of 25 crews/ships above 50 (e.g., for 51 registered crews/ships, a total of three awards may be presented; for 78 crews/ships, four awards may be presented).
  • Areas may present eight awards per year.
  • Regions may present eight awards per year.
  • The BSA National Council may present eight awards per year.
  • At least 50 percent of the recipients of the Venturing Leadership Award at every level must be youth members.

Reporting and Obtaining Awards

Areas and regions must send in a list of Venturing Leadership Award recipients each year so the National VLA database can be updated. Please use this form to submit the names and email it to Venturing.NationalOfficers@scouting.org
